HCR-20 V3 Training

Course Overview:  The HCR-20 V3 is the world’s leading violence risk assessment tool, used across a range of prison, secure hospital and community settings. We specialise in tailoring our two day standard training package in conjunction with your organisation, to ensure that content relates directly to the needs of your client group, to enhance you team’s learning experience. Our courses cover all the essentials of the structure of the HCR-20 assessment, working with the rating system, and using the tool to inform risk management strategies, plus a number of bespoke additions. A certificate of participation which can contribute to CPD hours is provided.

Why Rockliff and Scott training? For our tailored training, we can offer a choice of case study (or bespoke case study), emphasis on specific areas of the assessment depending on your service need, and develop packages of multiple assessments (eg to include RSVP or SAPROF) if required. Our tailored training is delivered face to face, which gives the benefit of group discussions about the case material, something our training delegates have consistently rated as a key highlight of the training. All HCR-20 V3 training offers the option of including the Female Additional Manual, and gender-responsive risk assessment if applicable.

The Trainers: Sarah Rockliff and Carolyn Scott are highly experienced in the use of the HCR20-V3, using it prisons, secure hospitals, community settings, family courts, mental health review tribunals and parole board hearings. In addition, their roles specialist decision makers means they are well-placed to provide insights in to the practical application of the tool in formal settings. Sarah and Carolyn have trained a large number of other professionals across a range of settings in the use of the HCR20-V3. They are happy to share their experience, knowledge and learning, or explore specific queries you have- feel free to put them through their paces!

Who is the Training Suitable For? If you are a healthcare professional working with those with a forensic history, then this course is for you, whether you are a nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, offender manager or speech and language therapist. The course is suitable for people of differing experience levels, including those who have trained in the earlier versions, and those who are newer to working with risk of violence.

Colleagues in legal professions are very welcome to attend the course in order to enhance their understanding of the tool when it is used in criminal or family cases, although we cannot qualify you to use the tool. Please contact us to chat about your needs.
