Carolyn Scott, BSc (Hons), MSc, C.Psychol.

Sarah is an HCPC registered Forensic Psychologist. She holds Chartered Psychologist status with the British Psychological Society (BPS), and is also an Associate Fellow of the BPS. She is an accredited Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) practitioner, having completed post-graduate certification in this area.  Sarah is also a very experienced supervisor and is on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors.

Sarah’s experience in the field started even prior to her training as a forensic psychologist, when she worked with street-based drug users and offenders, and as a resettlement advisor in different prisons, whilst completing her undergraduate degree and Masters’ degrees in psychology.  Sarah secured a training position in HM Prison Service, where she subsequently qualified as a Forensic Psychologist. During her years in the Prison Service, Sarah specialised in working with high risk offenders whose substance use linked to their offending behaviour, and risk assessment of a wide range of different offences and presentations.

Sarah’s interest in working more responsively with her client group, in particular those with mental illness, autism and learning disabilities, led her to move in forensic mental health, and she has now worked in secure hospitals and the community for over eight years.

Sarah has considerable expertise as an expert witness, working with Parole Boards and Category A boards, Mental Health Review Tribunals and in the Family Courts, advising on risk of re-offending, including in child protection and custody cases.

Carolyn began her career as a psychological assistant in the Prison Service where she went on to undertake her training and gain BPS Chartered Status and HCPC Registration.  During her time in the Prison Service she facilitated accredited programmes for individuals with substance misuse difficulties and to address sexual offending related risks, as well as offering psychological advice and consultancy with regards to violence reduction and managing challenging behaviour.

Carolyn has extensive experience of undertaking risk assessments and producing accessible, informative risk assessment reports, utilising a range of Structured Professional Judgement assessment tools for different offence types.

Carolyn’s career has gone on to take her into the healthcare system where she works with individuals with a range of offending behaviour and mental health presentations, specialising predominately with individuals who attract a diagnosis of personality disorder.

Throughout her working life Carolyn has promoted the value of supervision and provided supervision for professionals from different backgrounds as well as psychological assistants, forensic psychologists in training, and trainee clinical psychologists.  Carolyn is on the Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors. She has been involved in various training projects; designing and delivering training for a range of disciplines, as well as teaching on psychology undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Carolyn has undertaken further training in a range of therapy approaches including DBT, Schema Therapy, CFT and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in CBT (Secondary Care).
