SAPROF (Structured Assessment of Protective Factors)

adult-blur-close-up-260973.jpg

A combination of risk factors and protective factors is important for assessing risk, and both are vital to risk effective risk management and treatment planning. Recognition of evidence based areas which reflect strengths and factors known to protect against future re-offending is important in providing a balanced assessment of risk. This approach can feel more positive for clients which can aid collaboration and motivation to engage in the risk management process.

In line with the research and theory around the Good Lives Model (Ward, 2002) and Desistance theories (such as the work of Shadd Maruna), the SAPROF provides professionals of all backgrounds with a structure to assess protective factors to be undertaken alongside other structured professional judgment risk assessment tools such as HCR20 or RSVP.

This one-day course will support participants to understand the theory behind protective factors, and work through a case using the manual.
